New family home on extensive acreage, bordering a large and protected wetland. Village architecture, having the look of a small village of several outbuildings instead of a single structure of one large volume. This concept lends itself to building forms of interconnected but simple geometry and an enclosed courtyard is formed naturally in the center of these forms. Sloping site creates interesting cluster of various height buildings and leads to surprising spaces.
The Rasmussens desired a large shop building in addition to space for two additional cars which we provided as two one-car garages which helps to diminish the overall scale of the project. We provided a strong, design-oriented concept for their new home while Kirk and Karren chose to specify all finish textures and materials themselves, using the experience they gained from having previously built their own home in Kodiak, Alaska.
